I know I know. One can lecture me over and over again but I can't break my habit. I've tried many different strategies.
I toss my threads on the floor.
I toss them with attitude. Tossing them gives me a bit of relief when I'm in the quilting zone . It actually feels a bit bad and rebellious. I know I should have a little thread catcher or a pocket in an apron but I just can't.
I hope this doesn't give anybody the impression that I'm a slob or I'm not organized because on the contrary , if someone was to come to my studio right now they would see that I'm probably too organized. You see, I dislike clutter. It really distracts me. I don't have many tchotchkes cluttered on my shelves. I don't collect lots of fabric or tools or quilting items. The only clutter you may find is my collection of mints ( have you tried altoids liquorice?!) stored in a bowl in a drawer.
and my thread mess under my machine.
So I want to know: am I alone ? Am I the only tosser around here or are there others like me?
Your not alone! I'm a tosser and I enjoy picking up all my threads off the floor when I'm done the quilt on my machine. I hate clutter too and everything I own has it's spot, my space is usually very neat.
ReplyDeleteI am not a thread tosser because I really dislike dislodging the threads from the vacuum cleaner beater bar--broke my best seam ripper trying to dislodge those bits that get twisted around it!
ReplyDeleteI always thought you had to be a man to be a tosser but maybe it doesn't have the same meaning in Canadian English ;-)
ReplyDeleteTotally a tosser over here ...its not good for the vacuum cleaner either!
ReplyDeleteI toos like it's my job. Who has time to "catch" those threads. I can get them when I am done:)
ReplyDeleteI'm a tosser! Yes, I am : ) Actually laughed out loud when I saw this post. When I saw the title, I wonder if it referred to tossing threads. I guessed it right : ) LOL!!!! You are not alone.
ReplyDeleteI'm a tosser too. that's what a vacuum is for.
ReplyDeleteI used to toss all the time. But I recently got a really cute hot pink trash that can sit on my work station. So now I don't toss so much.
ReplyDeleteTosser!
ReplyDelete:-)
Long live the vacuum cleaner.

I toss, I brush and I pick threads off of my pieces and myself all onto the floor. Far easier to let fall and sweep up!
ReplyDeleteI think I'm too lazy to 'toss', that would mean I'd have to clean it up after.
ReplyDeleteI have a little container beside my machine. I have been saving my threads for a while and now I have enough to use in an upcoming class to make a picture wall hanging. So no I am not a "tosser" I am a "collector".
ReplyDeleteToss, altho I have leader/enders always going so threads are a minimum and I have a lino floor and sweeping is ever so much easier than hoovering.
ReplyDeleteI'm a bit of both . . . I have little garbage cans at each end of my machine (I move them dependant on the size of the quilt) to drop the thread into, but if I'm in a hurry, or in the middle of the quilt - I toss, toss, toss and clean up when I'm done.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Little Island Quilting - I nearly choked on my Diet Coke reading the title! lol.
ReplyDeleteI try to keep as much of the threads off the floor as possible.Fabric crummies? Not so much. I also keep a wastebasket within arm's length at all times while sewing - I had to learn the hard way.
I do the same thing. My poor family walks around with threads eternally stuck all over their socks!
