Let's be honest...

I know exactly why my quilting hasn't been productive in the last while.

It's been growing.
It's been molting.
It's been stagnant.

The fairies haven't appeared to help me out.

In order for me to get any inspiration to craft, I need to fix this.  Pronto.
I think Ikea is on  the list for tomorrow...need storage.

lucky duck...

Do you ever wonder if you'll ever ever ever win?  I was beginning to.  And then I did!

Beth was hosting a giveaway of two patterns and a sweet treat of 1.5" strips...and I won.I love the oranges and greens in these fabrics!!  The art quilt design is so pretty...Hooray!  Thanks again, Beth!

I've actually won another giveaway (!!), but haven't heard from the poster yet, and don't want to seem too anxious about it.   She just got back from quilt market and I'm thinking it's a whirlwind time for her right now.   I'll post about it when I hear more.

In other news...I got back from Vancouver from a FABULOUS Thanksgiving weekend trip.  But of course, came down with some kind of flu/cold whatever it may be.  It's almost gone now, but now I'm in catch up mode.

I went thrifting today and found a really special deal.  Here's a sneak peak.... can you see the date on this gem?

Here's another hint:

...more later.

Thankgiving Day

We have travelled for 12 hours by car to be with family in Vancouver for Canadian Thanksgiving Day/weekend. It's been amazing and so soothing for our souls and for our heartstrings. On the bad side...it's in the middle of Quilt Festival, and I have limited access to email/computer time, so I cannot respond individually right now to your comments. I will do so by the end of the week.

Please know how much I value and treasure your comments and your visits. They motivate me, and make me feel so wonderful knowing there are so many wonderful other quilters out there.
We're an amazing community and I'm so thankful to have found this 'outlet'.

I will be by to check out your blogs and comment later on the week...thanks for stopping by!

Quilt Festival Fall 2009

I have had a fairly unproductive few months since our April Festival...but I did get about 4 quilts finished!

Here is the one that I absolutely love. It is MY quilt on the couch, and I backed it with very soft fabric (chocolate colour) on the back. It's not minky, it's not flannel, it's something in between...almost a sherpa but very short dense pile. It's called Fireside, made by Trendtex. A grown up minky, if you can imagine. That, and it has a grown up price! $31.95 per meter..but so well worth it! It's MY quilt after all! How many quilts do we make for others, and then forget to spoil ourselves? LOL

This pattern is from American Patchwork and Quilting FEBRUARY 2009 issue. The pieced fabrics are from PinkChalkFabrics
and are shot cottons. The binding is all pieced from the scraps left over. I think I had only 30cm left over! Shot Cottons have a bit of depth or dimension to them with the warp and weft fibers being two different colours. The backing is from my LQS

***Edited to change - it's not in the April 2009 issue, but the February 2009 issue! Sorry if you've been looking, my error!

Motherlode...now gone.

I went through every piece and kept all of the solids and some print pieces that I liked...and some of the warm and natural,  couple meters of unbleached muslin, and big knitting needles (not sure why they were there!)  So, I've added quite a bit of pieces to my stash.

and then I promptly listed it on kijiji (kind of like craigslist)  and sold it for the same that I bought it for!  $40.   It's already gone! ;-)

It never occurred to me until Mel mentioned to cut it, group it and sell it on etsy.   I really like that idea....except I read it AFTER I had made arrangements for my buyer to pick up the boxes.
But you know what?  I can't STAND lots of stuff and clutter.  And the boxes, literally were only in my house for 8 hours, and I couldn't get rid of them fast enough.  The extra 'stuff' in my house was driving me insane.     I guess I'll never be one of those manic fabric hoarders after all! LOL

So.  It's been a good day.  Extra stash for me.  And no money lost.  Just a bit of time.  But fun.

Still coveting my Juki and a quilting frame.  The bad part?  My husband would buy it in an instant for me.   I just can't justify it yet.

Motherlode...

I found someone's stash this weekend....all for$40.

Now, after rummaging through the boxes, I'm wondering if I paid too much for it, as there is alot of stuff in there I probably won't use.   But, I'll go through it and donate the rest, I guess.  Lesson learned.  But when you read an ad that says 10 boxes of quilting cottons for $5 each, I kind of got excited.  And when you arrive at the house, you get excited, and nervous, and I'm not the kind of person that says, um no...this just won't work for me.

But lots will work.

I'm dreaming about a juki machine and a frame....went to the creative stitches show (like a sewing trade show) this weekend and found my thing.

Neat Blog...

My friend Mel, who needs to ahem get a blog and show off her work (hint hint), emailed me this link for 365 Days of Freemotion Quilting Designs

It is an incredible quilter who has made it a project to demonstrate a new freemotion quilting design each day.   The video tutorials are excellent, she describes the difficulty level for each one, and I really love the ideas.   I think I may need to invest in some bulk thread in the near future!

Go see her blog...and check out all of the designs for inspiration.  I especially love her names for all of them!  I especially love double pebble and pebbles in a stream....

In quilting news.  Well, there is no news.  Thus, I spread the word of interesting reads for you....
I'll have something soon enough.  I think I'm going to put my wonky blogs on hold for awhile and sink my teeth into a project that will get me more motivated.    Oh no!!  I will now have TWO (wonky quilt and finish machine quilting my vintage bed sheets quilt) works in progress.... ACK! That's so not me! I finish what I start!

Two very different books from the library...

I love my library.  I was the first one to reserve and sign out the new Material Obsession book!

While I love leafing through the book and ooh'ing and ah'ing all of the photos and getting pretty ideas about new modern fabrics in traditional quilt settings, I found myself still craving to learn more about the art part of quilting.  I think I'm starting to branch out more with improv and colour theory right now.  Yes, I know I need to practice what I learn, but anyone who knows me knows I research things endlessly...

So, while at the library, I picked up this book

This book was very informative.  Don't let the cover fool you into thinking it's about landscape quilting.  It is not.  I am still reading it, but I'm learning alot about a different way of piecing and quilting.    There's alot of information about colour theory,  making improvisational blocks, overlays  and adding dimension - and how to do it, with simple projects to practice the concept. The author's website has some wonderful ideas as well... check out the gallery!
I'm really enjoying this read, and learning alot from it.  It's not just about photographingand showing off beautiful quilts, it's about the process...

Are there any books that totally inspire you?   Do you find that your quilting interests or style waxes and wanes?

I started out really loving anything to match home decor.  Then onto bold bright primary and gemstone colours (think Laurel Burch style).   Then I discovered the modern quilting and the modern fabrics with lots of white sashing and simple, traditional blocks.   I'm still very into modern, simple blocks and I love solid colours.   But now my interest is leaning again towards improvisation.    And yet, I'm not a large producer of quilts.   I just love learning about the process, trying it out and doing/learning something new.

I'm not a multiple quilt generator, wanting to become a famous blogger, or a famous pattern maker, or even a famous quilter.... I just want to learn all about the art form and let my creativity evolve through my research.

Colour Combo Inspirations...

While at the hardware store today, I noticed these beauties in the paint samples.  Usually it's the monochromatic chips, but there were co-ordinating chips at this store.  Very cool.  There were lots more, but I chose only the ones that "spoke" to me.  Whatever that means.  LOL

mandatory cat in the way as usual shot.

We went looking at an acreage today.  It is the same one we admired last year, and then it sold.   The people who bought it were investors, and reno'd it, and we really like the renos.  Things here have been hectic on the life front - we almost endured a transfer to somewhere far, far north of us, but a paid move, and financially great.  But location, not so great.  So now, that has not turned out (thankfully) and we are speculating dh to take reigns of the ship here in the city in a promo way, and it may mean us staying for a few more years.  If that is the case, I wanna move to an acreage!  If it is not the case.....I want to move back home to BC!  LOL.  So has the story been of my past 4 years. Are we moving this season? yes? no?   The cost of living here is so much less than in BC.  We get more bang for our buck here...we just miss home is all.  I'm assuming that the longer I live here, the lesser the yearning for 'home' gets.

anyone live on an acreage?  There's something romantic and freeing about the thought of it...and something terrifying about it too.   Right now I live in a cookie cutter development, where I can hear my neighbours sneeze.

I just want to settle and find a forever home...or at least a home I can make a design wall for quilting without worrying about moving in the next 4 months so let's not put too many holes in the walls.  *sigh*
Is that too much to ask for?   A design wall in my forever home please?

Anyone else have a husband who seems to be constantly on the verge of transferring or restructuring positions?   It's so frustrating!!!

Anyways, back to the original topic - colour inspiration - Amy asked about it...where we get it from, and today, I found some in an unusual spot.

Crochet or Knit, which is easier?

I'm going to give it a go again. I need to do something while I'm 'relaxing' watching my new fall tv shows.   I just can't be a couch potato and not do something at the same time.

So which is easier...crochet or knitting?   Does the yarn make a difference?  If so, please give me some suggestions...

Kona Cotton Solids...

I purchased some Kona Cotton Solids from the Fabric Shack .  They were super reasonable at $3.99/yd US$.  It was very fast shipping, and they included a package of machine needles in my package!  Cool!   This is for a new quilt that I got some inspiration for, now I need to execute it!
I'm really loving the charcoals, but may add or swap out a couple of browns and a couple of the greens.  It's so hard to go by the colour swatch on websites, but what a nice package to get in the mail today.

I have done NO quilting or sewing this week.  I'm going downstairs right now to fix that.    I'm 1/2 way done machine quilting my sheets quilt, and have no clue how far I'll get with my wonky log cabins...but I need to sit down and soothe my soul for abit.  This week and last have been a bit stressful life wise, but should be calming down  next week.  I hope.

A bit of this a bit of that...

I cut all of my Christmas fabrics for the wonky log cabin quilt along on flickr.   Tried a bit of wonkiness, and need to be more daring with my slicing and dicing to create a more obvious crooked block, rather than one that looks like I was sloppy. My next one will be a 1/4 wonky, which I have a feeling I'll love alot more.

My backing fabric on my bedsheets quilt looks SO adorable.  I cannot wait to show you the finished project.  Just a few more lines to go (grid quilting) and the binding still to put on. Then, to find a recipient.

Onto gardening news...look at my bountiful harvest!

Okay, trick photography.  They're wee tomatoes.  LOL.  I planted cherry tomatoes and grape tomatoes.
The grape ones taste much better than the cherry ones, and are much firmer and delicious.  The green ones are spilling everywhere on the plant, so I'm hoping to get much more in the next few days.  Weather looks cooler again, so I'm feeling a little leery about that.   My cucumber plant has lots of yellow flowers, but no cukes. :(  I think they may not happen this year.  and my crazy carrots - well, stay tuned. I'm going to pull some this week. They look very wonky too!

I ordered some solid fabrics for my next quilt and can't wait for them to arrive.  I have a feeling solids and shot cottons may be my future.  I get the most inspired when I see solids in a quilt.

Vintage Bed Linens Quilt

I haven't been melting in the heat wave we've had over the last week... really.  I've been doing a bit of that, and this and that, and a bit of  this...

My vintage bed linens have finally been used!  I pieced it with some stash of white, as well as a piece of my Katie Jump Rope in blue.  You'll see it all in a bit completed...I'm going to back it with my ladybug backing fabric I picked up long ago.

Top it off with back to school for my big guy...he's a big grade 2'er now and is thrilled that he is now allowed to (according to school rules) play in "the BIG forest" now.  LOL.  Little guy is missing his big bro, but he'll be off to preschool class twice a week starting next week.

I've been also doing lots of thinking about what fabrics to cut apart for a Wonky Log Cabin Block Quilt Along.   And of course, my life wouldn't be complete without millions of more thoughts trapped in my head, such as this colourway of solids I thought up for a modern quilt I've been wanting to try out. Still need to purchase these, however..and may wait until my wonky quilt is underway.

To top it off, I've been doing some home fixes - getting paint for the deck, fixing the fence, repairing the play structure roof, and the endless weeding in our garden and cobblestone paved back yard.  **hint...when buying ahome, even though pavers look so beautiful, and look like not a lot of maintenance - they are.  those weeds pop up daily, in abundance.

Happy Blogiversary to Me!!!

Happy Blogiversary to me....  It's my 3rd year blogging! Holy moly!
I've started my blog as my anecdotes of moving to and living in Alberta.  I started working in a rural country school, and had so many interesting days...commutes included!  My language was pretty free in the beginning, be warned, and many of my commentaries were  about Snot and more snot,
and of course bodily functions
and my all time favourite student moment, not favourite student, but favourite moment

After working became a little too stressful (and my frequent sickness was doing me in!)  I decided to quit work and be a stay at home mom for a few years while I could.   My blogging became more random, and then once I discovered quilting, well, you know where my blog has focussed on now.

So...my 78 year old dad is in town right now and I've snuck on here to celebrate.     I'm going to do a giveaway tomorrow, as I can't get down to my sewing cave, as that's where my dad's stuff is.

But....be forewarned.  A giveaway tomorrow...and probably a good one too!  Don't worry, no Canada trivia this time LOL!

I'm just so happy to have found something I really love.   I wish I had more production happening, but the pace is right for my life right now and I won't be a slave to something I enjoy.  so my blog isn't as crafty and filled with photos on a daily basis...but you get the flavour of me just fine.       Well, maybe not my philosophical flavour.... but meh.  one day.

Construction parallels quilting...

well...somehow I had to tie this together!  I'm so darn proud of myself!  My dad is here for the week (that's another story.  Let's just say I love my dad, but he's going on 78, refuses to wear his hearing aid, conversations are not conversations but rather monologues, and conspiracy theorist)

Anyways, back to my story.  We needed to fix a few dry rot boards on our little deck, as well as redo the steps because of dry rot.  My husband is NOT in any sense of the word a handy man.  He can't even hang a picture.  The blue and pink jobs in the house, are all mine.  So, I had a blue job.   I seized the opportunity to get some guidance from my dad (as dh has vowed to get this done since May...*sigh*)  and I did it all by myself!!  He helped me pick up the lumber, showed me what kind of screws to buy, and voila!

So...how does this tie into quilting?  WELL!  measure twice, cut once.  Make sure seams match up perfectly, and things are squared up and level.   Now my "machine quilting" will be the coat of paint that I slather on next week to make it all new and blue.

And the best part???  It was all done before hubby came home.   I think he was pretty humbled at my blue job completion.

To tell you the truth though, as much as I LOVED using the saw and the power drill,  my nails are ruined (even though I don't have a manicure) and my hands much prefer the soft fibres of cotton and the hum of the machine, to the screeching of the saw and hammering of the nails.

Phrase of the day: 85% off

Need I say more?  These are last year stocks.   No, they are not from my LQS but a chain.  But hey, how can you even turn your eye on $1.50 per meter?   They are tight weave, quilter's 100% cotton (not craft cotton quality), and will make some gorgeous Christmas quilts....  I can't believe I spent $17 on 10 meters of fabric.   Especially when I have supported my LQS at $28.95 per meter on backing minky fabric.  Several times.    I deserve this break.

Guess where I'm off now?  Another location to scout out more.   I think I heard the chant "hoarding" coming from you all.  You're just jealous.

Baby Quilt

It's a touch smaller than a baby quilt, so perhaps I should call it a stroller quilt?

Minky furry stuff on the back to cuddle with.   These were left over blocks from another baby quilt I made back in January.    Can you believe I still have left over blocks?  I could have made this quilt bigger by using more of them, but I get all caught up with symmetry sometimes, and couldn't use them because of that.

I'm terrible at labelling.  Have not done any labelling on any of my quilts yet.  Nor have I named them.   My type of naming is like this.   This one would be called:  the smaller stroller quilt I made that had the left over blocks from baby jesse's rail fence quilt.  LOL.

When I give them as gifts, I put a little note card inside with the washing instructions, and always, always put the following:  "runny noses and sticky fingers allowed.."   I love that.

New Treasures...

I picked up a new (to me) coffee table from craigslist yesterday.  We purchased a crummy cheap one from home depot last year, that literally peeled and fell apart.  I couldn't stand it anymore.  We were holding off until we move to a new home (whenever that may be!) but this pleather ottomon style table came up for $70 and I snatched it up.  It's like new and suits our home nicely.   I didn't photograph it, as it's holding a Cars vs Dinosaurs showdown right now in the living room.  That, and my kids are still in their underwear.  They don't do pyjamas for some reason. Well, they do..but they are peeled off within minutes.  Do yours?

The same people however were also selling a quilt stand which I happily snatched up for $20.  I'm really happy with it!  It's in a corner for now until I figure out where to put it.  Isn't it nice?  Now, I feel like a REAL quilter.  haha!

My little guy turned 4 yesterday! Happy Birthday to the sweetest dude ever!!

In gardening news... here's what I learned about planting seeds willy nilly and too close together.  My photos aren't the typical bloggy goodness I've been reading about this week...the abundance, the growth, the mega sizes.   nope. mine are a little, er, special.   I've never grown carrots before, so I'm still quite pleased with myself that something actually grew in my garden!    The baby tomatoes are exploding everywhere...just waiting for them to turn red

My post about thread the other day hopefully didn't sound too grumpy.  I was frustrated.  This was the 2nd project I've really battled thread issues with.  And not just quilting, but piecing too.  I will attempt again.  With a different brand as some suggested (if I can find it here!. May need to online shop)  I've just finished a baby quilt for someone and another is in the cutting stage.  Why don't I do baby quilts more often. So refreshing and quick!

Thread anarchy

Dear cotton threadmakers of the world,
Please, please please, can you please make a thread that doesn't break, fray, shave thin and then break, or fluff to bits for me?   This happens whether I am on the machine, or sewing by hand. Is this a ploy to get me to buy larger spools?  Because I need to since I go through so much of it. Is this a ploy for me to try sister brands or competitive brands?  Because I have and they are all the same.  I even spend the extra bucks at my local quilt shop.    I'm tired of it.   I'm moving to polyester.

Dear cotton thread advocate quilters of the world,
Please don't judge me for using polyester thread.  I realize that the extreme strength of my polyester thread will far outlast my cotton fabric, thereby eventually causing rips and tears from the needle holes where the thread has travelled through.    I realize that my quilts will not be considered heirloom quilts and be loved and adored by someone 50 years from now.   I hope not.  By then, the dust mite issue will far outweigh the heirloom issue., and well, just as fashions change, so do quilt styles.  And if I actually got that famous to become an historic heirloom quilter, you can note this in the history books - I switched from cotton to poly in 2009,  creating a movement of polyester thread using quilters!!

Dear sewing machine and sewing needle makers of the world,
Please make me a sewing machine that will not shred, shrivel and stretch my cotton thread.  Don't patronize me with the spool or bobbin "tension" spiel.  The only tension issue I have is the tension headache that has evolved this afternoon with my quilt and thread issues.

Dear Readers,
If you have found the miracle thread, please let me know.

Otherwise, Guterman Polyester it is.   I've used it for years faithfully on everything else needle and thread related, and it's been a peanut butter and jam friendship ever since.   In fact, I want one of those incredible rainbow mega spool boxes of it.  Just for me.

Google reader discovery, and random thoughts trapped in my head.

Holy moly.  Where the heck have I been?   I just discovered google reader.   Well, I've heard of it, but just never took the time to figure it out.    I read people's blogs almost every day.   It's time consuming to go from each of my bookmarks to their blogs, load up all the photos and then to find out there's nothing new.

I think I've saved about an hour of unnecessary work each time.   I've loaded up all of my approximately 60 blogs that I follow, and voila, it tells me when and if there is a new post to read.  This morning?  Only 2 to read.   How much time is that!! Wow!  I'm so thrilled about this.

Little things keep me entertained I tell you.  I'm a cheap date.

Does this mean I should go and find more quilty blogs to read? hmmm.

I'm also thinking of joining a bee.  not sure yet.

Very homesick to move back to BC right now.   I look at photos of my old home and tears well up.   :(   It's time to move back.   I miss ethnicity, sushi, indian food, old friends and family politics.  I even miss higher taxes and being mortgage poor.  Well, maybe not that.

My husband has now programmed two COUNTRY music stations in the van.   If that isn't motivation to move back, I don't know what is.  LOL

Good to be home.

I can honestly say that I'm not a whiner or a complainer but vacation this year wasn't as good as it's been.   Hubby pulled out his back (probably from luggage) and for the first 3 days he was in alot of pain.   Then, hubby's sisters and spouses and children descended upon gramma and poppa's house, and it was a zoo.   I was a little freaked out over the lack of boundaries and some behaviour issues with the other kids.  It was a real eye opener as to the different parenting styles within my husbands siblings!   It was nice to see them all, but we're quickly reminded at why, as families, we live in separate homes ;-)

Dh also developed swimmers ear which became an ear infection and he was "out" again for 3 days at the end of our trip...he needed to go to emerg twice to get pain killers it was so bad.Is it wrong of me to insert a little comment about men being poor patients when they're sick?   Being Canadian, the system is a little whacko with the insurance thing (omg I'm so glad to have medical like we do in Canada)  so we need to get the paperwork and costs straightened away.    He's still not well.  And me, while he was in his own little sick world, I was fighting off a cold, which has manifested itself nicely into a full broncial chest/head cold today.   Just call me barky.  So we've had quite a few blips this year.  All in all, the trip was nice...just really busy and a little stressful.  I'm glad to be home.

I'm glad to get cracking on a quilt.   Before I do, I may just make a bag first.    I'll leave you with some beachy thoughts... this wasn't intended to be a whiny post.

1. discovered continuous spray sunscreen.  omg why haven't i known?
2. chocolate covered pretzels with toffee bits  sprinkled on top.  dude.
3. little boys grab themselves. its a universal trait that i've finally recognized as a male trait, not just a grown male trait.  LOL
4. Carolina sand has a remarkable sense of finding it's way into nooks in crannies that make you wonder...
5. crocs really need to be kept to the children.  please.
6. swimming pools make my legs look shiny all day!
7.palmetto bugs crunch when you slam your child's croc on them.
8. conversation at pool with a man from kansas city - quote from him, but please say this with a very thick drawl and imagine a balding, shaggy moustache and bearded man with hoarse cigarette voice... "yeah...myrtle beach is pretty american.  We call myrtle beach the redneck capital of the east coast it's so tacky and typical redneck".   If only he knew how redneck he sounded to me, the little ole Canuck! LOL
9. you can call me sugar, honey, sweetie pie any time.  just don't say uh huh after I say thank you to you.
10. Waves, no matter how big or small, always soothe and calm the soul.  Watching them, feeling them, hearing them washes away your worries...

Machine Quilting the Perpendicular Way

A few people have asked about the way I machine quilt.  Even the ladies at the quilt shop the other day were  amazed that I "LOVED" to machine quilt.  I told them about this way, and they were a little perplexed.

Basically, I get my settings ready, turn my machine sideways and start quilting.

I always start from the center of the quilt outwards.  I usually work towards the quilt that is rolled up in the throat of the machine and work from side to side that ways.   Then, I turn the quilt around, and work the other way.   It's not a perfect art.  Sometimes I end up going in different directions, depending how the groove goes, and how much bunching occurs.   I have to tell you though, it is so much easier on your shoulders and your posture, and your hands have a good handle on the fabric and can move your fabric easier.

If you were doing something more intricate like feathering, or directional design, I'm sure you'd have to tweak the fabric positioning according to your design.   But, hey, this works for me, and it's quite enjoyable.   Here's a very candid video my husband took.  He thinks I'm crazy for blogging.   I think HE'S crazy, especially since the first 3 seconds of the video was just cleavage shots he took of me.   LOL!

It's been decided...

I have ousted the red, blue, and white pain of a quilt.   It has jaded my inspiration, my productivity, my creativity.  I have stopped its production.   I realized today, after so much procrastination and continued procrastination (library, washing floors, washing the BLINDS!!!! truly, it was that bad) that it just was going to pain me for the next week and I still would not enjoy the final end product.  It does not feel like an Andrea quilt.

So, I have reverted to my original mother in law quilt.  I made it last year.  The one that dh thought was too "granola".  The one that when I chose the fabrics, they reminded me of the ocean, the sand, and the beach - the beach that we visit every year...the beach where mil lives.    It's not a traditional quilt, but it's simple, and that's what I like about it.  I'm simple. It was for her, and I chose the fabrics for her.
It doesn't match her decor, but, it will be cozy and loved when it's done.

Here's a reminder of what the top looks like - it's from Happy Hour Quilts:

Do you realize how lifted I feel?  How motivated once again I feel?  How free I feel?
Let me just say,  it's awesome.   It will be sandwiched and quilted by the weekend....stay tuned.

It's all about the journey right?

So.  I promise this will be the last post of me humming and hawing over this &^^* project.   My last gripe.   The last time I have my husband choose colours and style.   LOL.   I completed 26 blocks, thinking...yeah!  Just a few more and I'll have a quilt done.   I don't know where my brain was.  Honestly.  Math is my strength.   I need another, at least, 80 blocks, like these to get a decent lapsized quilt.   Shoot me now.   These little buggers are fussy seam matching.  And fussy seam matching once I put the blocks together too.  gah.   And then there's the machine quilting aspect too.   Do I do a simple meander? Diagonal line stitching?    See you next year!!  LOL!

One week of summer holidays completed...

Visitors have already left, this morning.  It's empty and quiet.  It was busy.  phew!

No crafty goodness to report on...been enjoying the outdoors and catching up on lots of magazine reading.   What quilting magazines are your favourites?  I love Quilters Home, and I also really like American Patchwork and Quilting, as they usually have a good smattering of modern quilting ideas in there too.  So the stacks of back issues are once again piled by my bedside, a big mess of magazines and inspiration.  This next week, the weather is threatening to be raining all week, a good thing for us, as it has been drought conditions here.  But rain and cool weather makes a quilter happy  - guilt free indoor progress! ;-)

After catching up on a few of my favourite blogs, it seems I am not alone in the dwindling of projects this season.   But here are some of the summer happenings around here...

The tooth fairy has literally been exhausted in her round trips to our house.   4 teeth in a month!   It's pudding and baby food for him! LOL

These guys were lost on my street. By about 4 blocks.  What they were doing in my neck of thee woods, I wonder.   But they wandered through like they owned the joint.
See here?  They decided to block both lanes of traffic!!

My kids are already climbing the walls....

My little guy..or as many say, mini me!

Summer Holidays...

Last day of school was on Friday, and we've begun the summer vacation!  It's been a really busy few weeks,  June, July and August are birthday/holiday h*ll around here.  Seems like everything happens in these three months!

Anyways...no crafty progress.  It's been a lot of work in the yard trying to get things somewhat nice, and a few projects around the house too.

First round of visitors, my sister and her boyfriend/spouse - don't know what to call him! (Brother-in-law except they're not married) and my nephew (one of my brother's kids wanted to tag along, and we gladly want him here!) are coming for the week.
